Efficient Message-Passing Decoding of Quantum LDPC Codes
Abstract :
In order to build quantum computers with a meaningful computing power, fault tolerance must be enforced, a good candidate for that being the use of quantum error correcting codes. In my Phd, I focused on the efficient decoding of the wide class of quantum LDPC codes using the generic message passing decoders. Although message passing decoders are known to perform very well on the classical LDPC codes, they have yet to show the same results on the analog quantum LDPC codes. In this talk, I will present practical post-processing algorithms that can be used to alleviate degeneracy issues, as well as some formal proofs on the limitation of the Min-Sum decoder for the toric code, giving a (hopefully) broad overview of the questions at hand in the topic of message-passing decoding of quantum codes.
