User-Centered Explainable Decision Support
The LIG is pleased to welcome Pr. Silvia Schiaffino from the University of the Province of Buenos Aires as UGA Visiting Professor for the two periods of Sep. 8, 2025 to Oct. 8, 2025 and Oct. 19, 2025 to Nov. 18, 2025
Abstract
In this seminar, Prof. Schiaffino will present her main research lines at ISISTAN Research institute. Capturing and modeling user preferences and interests is a key task along several types of systems, such as personalized assistants and recommender systems. Some examples will be discussed in a variety of domains such as online and mobile social networks, entertainment, education, e-commerce and user mobility. The talk will highlight advanced AI and machine learning methodologies to develop decision support systems that are not only effective but also adaptable to individual and group user needs. Also, approaches to provide explanations about the decisions made will be analyzed. Some examples of past and present collaborations with UGA researchers will also be presented.
Biography
Silvia Schiaffino is Full Professor at the Computer Science Department at National University of the Centre of Buenos Aires Province (UNCPBA) in Tandil, Argentina. She is a Principal Researcher at National Scientific and Technical Research Council (CONICET). She is vice head of ISISTAN Research Institute, where she leads the Recommender Systems group, and director of the PhD program in Computer Science at UNCPBA. She has directed several research projects funded by Argentinian institutions as well as cooperation projects funded by CAPES (Brasil), CNRS (France) and Germany (BMF). Her research areas are user profiling, personalization, intelligent systems, and recommender systems. She has more than 140 scientific publications.
